Northcott Edgerton Barristers & Solicitors, founded by Peter Northcott in 1989, combines over 30 years of experience when assessing a criminal case. Peter graduated with his LLB from the University of Alberta in 1984. Whilst at Law School he volunteered for Student Legal Services for three years assisting individuals facing criminal charges. In his last year he was elected director of the Criminal Law Office Project. He also served as President of the Law Students’ Association during his final year of law school. Peter articled with the Attorney General’s Office, doing mostly criminal prosecutions.

Upon completion of his articles and being called to the Bar in 1985, Peter opened up his own criminal defence firm and has been conducting trials and appeals for the last 30 years. Peter’s practice is almost entirely dedicated to defending individuals charged with impaired driving and related offences.

Patrick graduated the University of Alberta Law School in 2011. While in school he gained experience defending adults charged with minor crimes through his work with Student Legal Services. He also gained experience defending youth charges at the Youth Criminal Defence Office.

Since being called to the bar in 2012, Patrick has appeared at all levels of court in Alberta as well as administrative tribunals. He has successfully defended individuals accused of a broad range of crimes including physical and sexual assaults, drug trafficking, fraud and automobile-related offences. Patrick also has experience defending regulatory offences under statutes including the Wildlife Act, National Parks Act and the Public Health Act offences.

James is a lifelong Edmontonian who received his Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from the University of Alberta in 2008. After a brief time spent working in Government, James entered Law School and received his Juris Doctor in 2013.

While in school, James volunteered for Student Legal Services, working in the Criminal Law Project in the summer of 2012 and acting as a day leader and supervisor in his final year. He also spent time working for the Centre for Constitutional Studies throughout his three years of law school. James’ practice includes all aspects of criminal law. In addition, he is able to assist with civil litigation matters, specifically issues related to motor vehicle insurance claims.

Dib was born and raised in Edmonton, and received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with Distinction from the University of Alberta in 2010. After several years of engineering work, Dib attended Law School at the University of Alberta and received his Juris Doctor in 2016.

While in school, Dib volunteered for Student Legal Services, working in the Criminal Law Project in the summer of 2014 and acting as a day leader and supervisor in his second year. In his third year, Dib was selected to compete on behalf of the University of Alberta in the Western Canada MacIntrye Cup, a criminal trial advocacy competition. Dib was called to the bar in 2017, and his interests extend to all areas of criminal law offences.
